COOPERSTOWN, N.D. (AP) — A witness in the trial of a man charged with killing a North Dakota State University researcher says the defendant planned to do something dramatic because he wanted to start a white supremacist gang.

Daniel Wacht is accused of shooting and decapitating Kurt Johnson, who was last seen alive in Cooperstown on New Year's Eve 2010. Johnson's severed head was found in Wacht's basement.

Wacht has pleaded not guilty.

The Forum newspaper reports (http://bit.ly/HYXsbw ) Jason Bolstad testified Wednesday that Wacht told him he was "either going to blow something up or kill someone" to prove that the Aryan Nation was in the area.

Bolstad said he told Wacht he wouldn't get away with it, and Wacht replied that police "were all idiots and that they were corn-fed people up here."
