HASTINGS, Minn. (AP) — A Dakota County dog breeder is accused of drowning puppies in a bucket and another dog in a pool.
Sixty-one-year-old Dayna Kristine Bell is facing 16 counts of animal cruelty. She owns Bell Kennels and Farm in Sciota Township. Three former employees told police they witnessed Bell mistreating dogs. A criminal complaint says Bell placed four puppies in a bucket of water shortly after they were born and drowned them last September. A worker also said Bell tied a rope to a dog and the other end to a cinder block and threw it in a pool.
Sheriff's authorities say they found 10 small dogs in plastic bags in a freezer on the property when they searched the kennel and farm. No one answered the phone at Bell Kennels Tuesday.
