The Fargo Commission also unanimously approved spending $50,000 on a lobbyist in Washington to ensure a flying mission for Fargo's Air National Guard base.
The current Department of Defense budget would remove all aircraft from the guard base and turn it into more intelligence support. The guard could lose funding for its fire and rescue station, and leave the area more vulnerable during emergency and disaster situations.
Dennis Walaker – Fargo Mayor: “You don't go into a gun fight without a gun and you don't go into a flood without the National Guard.”
North Dakota would become the only state in the nation without a manned air mission
