North Dakota (WDAY TV) -- The North Dakota Senate race is heating up as campaign contributions are beginning to skyrocket.
After six months on the campaign trail Democrat Heidi Heitkamp's U.S. senate bid has attracted more than one million dollars in contributions.
Her opponent, Republican Representative Rick Berg is more than doubling that amount. Berg has raised more than 2-point-7 million dollars so far.
Both candidates say spending will be inevitable in this race.
Heitkamp says,"There's going to be a lot of spending, do I think it's going to be a big factor? No. I think that in the end you have to be competitive, but in the end you count votes you don't count money."
Berg says, "It's critical for me to get that message out to North Dakota people because we have to get this spending under control and we have to stop President Obama's policies."
In the first three months of this year Berg raised about 231-thousand dollars more than Heitkamp
