Construction has begun on a new water treatment plant in Hillsboro, part of a $28 million project. The joint project between the city of Hillsboro, Mayville and Traill Rural Water System includes the new plant, supply lines and a well field that's been developed. It started more than 10 years ago when they realized all the water systems needed updating.

The new facility is the final phase of the project and although the cost is $9 million, the city will only end up paying $2.3 million after federal grants.

Mark Forseth – Hillsboro Mayor: “There wasn't really anything wrong with Hillsboro water, it was hard and a little bitter tasting but with the new plant we're going to be able to offer softened water, better quality water.”

Hillsboro homeowners will see their rates double. The new plant should BE finished by September.
