A new app will save you money on your heating bill. The NDSU Extension Service created the Heating Fuel Comparison app that will help you determine the most cost effective fuel source when selecting new heating appliances.
With the app all you have to do is decide what heating appliance to buy after this the app will take care of the rest. It will show you every type of fuel source and its price.
Carl Pedersen – NDSU Extension Service: “Propane is sold by the gallon, where electricity is sold in kilowatts, but we converted it to values that are able to compare to the other.”
Carl Pedersen is the Energy Educator for the NDSU Extension Service. He turned an old manual into this electronic resource, the app provides any kind of fuel comparison, it allows you to compare things like electric resistance heating to a natural gas furnace.
It will then take both of those costs and put them into a similar value which allows choosing the best possible fuel source. The app doesn't only compare fuel prices for heating appliances, but other things as well.
Carl Pedersen: “With the stove or oven, same thing, you know if they are looking at propane stove or gas stove versus an electric stove as a fuel source they would be able to compare what would be most cost effective as well.”
In addition to the fuel source information the app also includes information on ways to reduce energy in buildings and around your home. The app is free and available for the Android and all Apple compatible products.
