The Old Thompson Bridge is now mangled steel after its demolition Friday morning.

Crews took two days to cut holes for the 96 different military-grade shape charges. That equals to 12 pounds of charges.

The old Thompson bridge only took milliseconds to brought down to the river.

Crews say safety was the number one goal.

"A lot of people get a bit mad when we don't let them sit real close, but the problem is there are fine little pieces of copper and steel that are flying off this bridge and we do everything we can to keep it in the steel structure," said Scott Gustafson, owner of Demtech Blaster.

Gustafson says the shards of copper and steel from the explosives can travel at 28,000 feet per second.
