Area surgeons get visit from traveling cadaver lab

Instead of traveling to a medical training conference, the education came to them. A special cadaver lab was in town this afternoon. Surgeons and Nurses from area hospitals and surgery centers came and took part in specialized training.

Medical and Surgical supply companies bring the traveling lab around the country to cities with medical centers. Today, the focus was on orthopedic surgery.

Dr. Gary Matthys – Orthopedic Surgeon: “It's a great learning tool, it's effective because they don't have to travel anywhere, and they can come up to the lab every day and practice on cadavers. It's pretty realistic, too.”

The lab is often used to showcase new techniques, implants, and instruments.
