MINOT, N.D. (AP) — Minot's City Council plans to discuss the city's flood protection plans.
Parts of the city were flooded by the Souris River last summer. More than 4,000 homes were damaged.
Mayor Curt Zimbelman says the project should be designed to deal with river flows as high as 15,000 cubic feet per second. That is the second-highest on record.
He says the plan should include flood walls and other permanent structures that would provide greater protection. Zimbelman says it should be built in stages to give the city more choices about what to do.
The Minot City Council is meeting late Thursday afternoon to discuss flood protection proposals.
