City of Moorhead trying to entice first time homebuyers

If you're a young couple on the market for a new home, Moorhead's looking for you. City leaders are sharing ideas with home builders, realtors, and lenders, coming up with a plan to bring home buyers into Moorhead. The focus is on lowering the cost of new development.

They're already asking the legislature to extend a proposal that pushes off property taxes for 2 years on new and remodeled homes. They also want to trim infrastructure costs and engineering fees.

One important piece is develop a marketing plan to perk people's interest, like renewable energy programs.

Michael Redlinger – Moorhead City Manager: "We have a special emphasis on that young family. We know with the quality of our K-12 system if we get that young family in here we have a chance of keeping them.”
