On April 10, 2012 at approximately 10:27 AM, the Moorhead Police Department responded to American Crystal Sugar Company (2500 11th St N) for a request of an explosive removal.

Officers learned that a blasting cap came into their facility with a load of coal and they needed assistance with the proper disposal. Blasting caps are used during the coal removal process. They are approximately 2-3” in length and the diameter of a pencil.

The discovery of blasting caps is not unusual for America Crystal Sugar employees. However, the blasting caps have usually already been detonated when discovered.

The regional bomb squad was called out to take custody of the blasting cap and dispose of it in a safe way. Again, the discovery is not unusual or suspicious in any way.
