WATFORD CITY, N.D. (AP) — The U.S. Forest Service is closing a trail and a bridge on federal grasslands in North Dakota due to damage caused by last year's heavy rains and flooding.

The four-mile Summit Trail about 19 miles south of Watford City connected the Summit Campground to the Maah Daah Hey Trail. Posts marking the trail on the Little Missouri National Grasslands will be removed this summer. The trail from the campground to the overlook will remain open. Officials say a new trail location might be considered in the future.

In southeast North Dakota, the bridge over Iron Springs Creek in the Sheyenne National Grasslands is closed due to soil erosion and unsafe conditions.
