The Fergus Falls mayor is at odds with city council over the rejection of a developer for the Regional Treatment Center. Last week, City Council rejected Geitso Export Management's proposal to convert the RTC into an education and tourism center called the Global Xchange Village.
The CEO could not provide certain financial information or five million dollars up front. In the last six years or so, the city has met with at least a dozen potential developers, but nothing has panned out. The mayor says the Global Xchange may have worked.
Hal Leland – Fergus Falls Mayor: “I didn't feel it was given the opportunity to find an avenue for it to develop and that brought on the scramble to avoid demolition and what can we do at this point?”
The city must find a developer by the end of 2013 or the RTC faces demolition.
