Walleye fishing is off to a strong start on the Missouri River

(WDAY TV) -- Walleye fishing is off to a strong start on the Missouri River after record flooding led to a drop in the fish's food source.

Nettings show the 3rd highest abundance of walleye since 1985. Anglers are finding plenty of keepers. Some often throwing back the fish, just above the 15 inch minimum.

This comes after a 75 percent drop in rainbow smelt, that flushed through a dam last summer.
