The Veterans Affairs Health Care System is helping those affected by sexual military trauma to become survivors. The VA is hosting its 3rd annual Clothesline Project for people in our area dealing with the issue.

At the event victims can hear the stories of other survivors to receive guidance and strength. They also can create shirts that show their journey from trauma to healing.

Organizers say there is a need for this program since nearly one in five women and one in one hundred men seen at the VA report they have experienced military sexual trauma.

Susan Thompson – Coordinator: “Historically in society it just hasn't been talked about so sometimes people forget that it actually is happening, and so it is really an awareness thing to raise awareness to get people to know that this actually does happen, and it helps for people to come forward.”

The program continues tomorrow from 8 to 3 PM and the Fargo VA.
