The city of Fargo is closer to wrapping up its University Drive corridor study and some business owners don't like what they are hearing. The process to improve University drive between 13th avenue south to 25th avenue south began in late 2008. City engineers have found congestion problems, especially during the winter, and near the interstate.
The corridor can be dangerous for pedestrians. There are proposals to add green space and a third lane near the Southside shopping center. Business owners say that would cut into customer parking.
Bernie Ness, Jr. – Bernie’s Wines and Liquors: “In our shopping center if this goes through we're going to be forced to move after 40 plus years of being in that area we're going to have to move.”
The city also wants to reduce the number of access points onto University drive. Any improvements could still be years away.
