Dalrymple wants FEMA houses for reservations

NEW TOWN, N.D. (AP) — Gov. Jack Dalrymple wants federal houses that were brought to Minot to help with Souris River flood recovery to go to American Indian reservations when they are no longer needed in Minot.

NEW TOWN, N.D. (AP) — Gov. Jack Dalrymple wants federal houses that were brought to Minot to help with Souris River flood recovery to go to American Indian reservations when they are no longer needed in Minot.

Dalrymple says he will ask President Barack Obama to have the Federal Emergency Management Agency trailers sent to the Fort Berthold and Turtle Mountain reservations to help with housing needs.

Dalrymple says the Bureau of Indian Affairs says the trailers need to be available to every reservation in the country. But he says the FEMA homes in Minot were designed for cold climates and it wouldn't make sense to move them south.

The Forum reports (http://bit.ly/HJWJey ) Dalrymple raised the issue during Interior Secretary Ken Salazar's recent trip to the state. Salazar suggested the governor write to Obama.
