Moorhead Public Service is replacing an old water main beneath Main Avenue between 4th and 8th Streets. Work will begin at the end of the month and end July 1st, maybe sooner. The main was installed in the early 1930's.
Jared Heller – Moorhead Public Service: "We do have issues with water main breaks and when those do happen we have considerable down time along that stretch and disruptions with businesses and traffic along there."
Another project involves MnDOT. Crews will mill and resurface Main Avenue between 8th Street North and the Red River Bridge. Four traffic signals will also be installed along that stretch. Another two signals will be installed between 8th Street and 34th on Center Avenue. Part of that project includes adding a crosswalk signal at the intersection of 10th Avenue and 8th Street.
Jesse Miller - MnDOT: "We're putting up a fence to help Concordia w/the jay walkers and try to get them up to 10th Street and then we're gonna put a signal up there for them to cross."
The work will require lane closures. It'll start mid-summer and is expected to be complete by late fall. Pedestrian improvements will also be made from 41st Avenue to Center Avenue on 8th Street, and from 8th Street to 34th Street North on Center Avenue.
