A Valley City School has students taking healthy eating into their own hands. Soon, the student council at Washington Elementary will fill up this community garden with their own fresh edamame, an edible soybean. They're responsible to plant, weed, and harvest the vegetable.
The program's in its third year, as part of the school's fresh fruits and vegetables initiative, helping children make better choices. The school's principal hopes it will inspire a healthy change in habits.
Wayne Denault – Washington Elementary Principal: "We want to encourage the kids to go home and talk with their parents about that, and maybe encourage more parents to have gardens at home.”
After harvest, all students at Valley City Elementary schools split the healthy snacks.
