The city of Halstad has taken over the American Legion building. Over the years Legion Members have not been able to keep up with the maintenance and operations of the building.

Several volunteers have donated time and supplies to reconstruct the building, and one women's gift to the city allowed them to take over ownership. LaVonne Pederson passed away early last year and left money for the city in her will.

She wanted it to go to a swimming pool, but city officials agreed a swimming pool would not be a good idea.

Lucas Spaeth – Superintendent City Utilities: “This is an older building, but being able to remodel it, they looked into building a brand new building for a community center, and that is what this building will be used for is community events.”

The remodel should be completed sometime this fall.
