At any political gathering -- comes at least some controversy. That was the case at a Republican event Friday night. Bismarck businessman Duane Sand is challenging Congressman Rick Berg for Senate. But Sand is skipping the convention endorsement to run in the June primary. He showed up at an informal dinner of delegates at a hotel. Sand brought former presidential candidate Herman Cain. Cain was welcomed to stay -- but Sand, was told to leave.

St. Rep. Al Carlson – (R) Fargo: “There’s people who have decided to skip the convention. And, they did that when they counted noses and found out they weren't gonna get the endorsement. So, instead of going through the embarrassment here the pulled out and went on to the primary."

U-S House candidate Kevin Cramer is also not seeking the party's endorsement.
