MOORHEAD – Firefighters pulled an elderly woman from a house fire here this afternoon.

The woman, found unconscious on the main level, was taken to Sanford Health in Fargo by ambulance.

Assistant Fire Chief Greg Doeden said the woman was breathing at the time. Her identity and condition is not yet known.

Doeden said crews were called to the fire at 1207 10th St. N. after 1:30 p.m.

When firefighters arrived, heavy smoke “all the way down to the floor” swelled inside the home, Doeden said.

He said firefighters probably found the woman just in time.

“The conditions were definitely worsening by then,” he said.

Fire crews have the fire under control but there is extensive damage to the main floor of the rambler style home with moderate smoke damage to the basement, Doeden said.

The cause of the fire and its origin are still under investigation.
