We now know the name of a Fargo pedestrian, who amazingly survived, after getting hit by a train. The man is identified as 61 year-old Dan Hassel. His condition isn't being released at this hour.

The incident caused traffic to be at standstill for hours, forcing drivers to take detours in downtown. Traffic is flowing again, but that was not the case here as police shut down this block to NP Avenue in one of the busiest parts of Fargo.

Six squad cars and dozens of emergency personnel responded to the tracks along Broadway and Main Avenue after one this afternoon. A witness called 911 after seeing the train hit Hassel. It was going 20 miles per hour. He was not run over.

Police say Hassel was walking northbound and went around a crossing gate after a west bound train passed. He was then hit by an eastbound train. Hassel was taken to Sanford with injuries to his head and upper body.

Sgt. Kevin Pallas – Fargo Police: “At this time, it's really hard to determine what's going on with this. Of course, we're going to continue to investigate and hopefully interview this gentleman that was struck to find out exactly what may have transpired or what led up to this.”
