Fargo City Parks like Lindenwood on the south side are enjoying a spring without flooding, but the park has been getting visits from beaver. Along Roger Maris Drive near the river, beaver have chewed some smaller trees. Usually this time of year, there is flooding in this area and the beaver are unable to get to the trees. Since cross country skiers, bikers and runners use the dirt trail, Park District foresters are taking down any trees that have been chewed on.

Dave Leeker – Fargo Park District: “If it gets entirely around the tree it is called girdling, and then if it compromises the health of the tree the forestry department comes in and removes hazardous trees.”

The damage to trees is not widespread throughout the park.
