An early spring and dry conditions mean recreational fires are right around the corner, but local fire departments have a few reminders first. In both Fargo and Moorhead you are not required to apply for a permit to have a backyard fire.
However, the fire must be at least 25 feet away from structures, including decks, fences, and other combustible materials. Even if these fire's meet regulations, local officials say if they're called out because of a complaint, you will be forced to extinguish your fire.
Greg Doeden – Moorhead Fire Chief: “People tend to go to bed and not put them out, so we worry about embers blowing out and starting a fire, it might be a fence or leaves or what not.”
