Remarkable; that’s how the North Dakota Game and Fish department describes the mild winter. It may have been just what the doctor ordered for some struggling wildlife populations.

The number of deer and pheasants in the area has been dwindling after three intense and long winters. Game and Fish says this is just the first step in the recovery process.

Doug Leier – ND Game and Fish: “People and hunters are expecting the winter to equal a bounty, or bumper crop of pheasants and deer. They need to temper their expectations. It's good, but it's one step in a long rebuilding process.”

To help bring back the deer population Game and Fish also trimmed the number of licenses available.
