There is a developing story out of Clay County this afternoon. The Sheriff's Department is investigating a dead body that was found on the railroad tracks east of the metro area.
Investigators say it happened on the BNSF tracks near the Buffalo River State Park, east of Glyndon. Deputies had trouble getting to the scene because the track is high at that point. The victim's name and cause of death are not being released.
Authorities believe the young man, who is from the area, was likely on an Amtrak Train headed to Chicago. It is unclear how he ended up dead on the track.
Bill Bergquist – Clay County Sheriff: “This is going to take a whole new thing; I think the train's final destination is Chicago, so we have things we need to find on the train. We're being assisted by the BCA, because there was a stop in Minneapolis, and we have their investigators talking to the conductors. We've already spoken to the police with Amtrak, and they're assisting in it.”
The name of the victim will be released tomorrow. The body has been sent to the Twin Cities for autopsy.
