(WDAY TV) -- A major development in a case we've been following for years. A fugitive priest accused of sexually assaulting two girls in Roseau County is arrested in India.

Two charges were filed against Father Joseph Jeyapaul in 2006. But the 57 year old refused to return from India. Prosecutors say the priest violently raped and threatened the girls in 2004 and 2005, while at Blessed Sacrament in Greenbush.

Jeyapaul worked for the Catholic Diocese of Crookston. Interpol contacted Indian officials, who issued a warrant for his arrest. We spoke with one victim about his capture.

Megan Peterson says, " I am really taken off guard, actually, I had just spoken with the prosecutor a few weeks ago and there was nothing going on that we were aware of. I'm feeling a wide range of emotions trying to wrap my head around everything but I am thankful he is away from children and vulnerable adults as of now so hopefully justice will prevail."

The Diocese and prosecutors couldn't be reached for comment.
