Bismarck, ND (WDAY TV) -- A man wielding a knife is shot by a Bismarck police officer after he threatened officers, responding to a domestic disturbance.

34 year old Arthur Feather faces charges. A passerby called police after seeing him hitting a woman Friday night. Authorities say the couple got into an argument driving through the city and Feather threatened her.

Police say he refused to comply with commands and officers fired tasers at him before shooting him in the arm.

Randy Ziegler with the Bismarck Police Department says, "anytime we have an incident like this the officers are a little shaken and we never want this to happen, but in this case it was unavoidable."

Feather has been released from the hospital. The officer is on administrative leave.
