Gary Euren - Prosecution: “How many times do you have to hit somebody in the body with a bullet to scare him enough?”
Juan Garza was shot seven times on June 5th outside the West Acres Cinema. The alleged shooter - Felipe Estrada. Prosecutor Gary Euren said there's no evidence Garza was armed.
Gary Euren: “Felipe had a gun, Juan did not, Juan ran, Felipe fired and shot.”
Estrada testified that he saw a gun. Defense attorney Steve Mottinger said his client was just defending himself.
Steve Mottinger – Defense: "Estrada didn't intend to kill anyone."
The two men were involved with the same woman-DeShawn Stodola. She's Garza's ex-wife and Estrada's ex-girlfriend. Mottinger says Estrada became a father figure to the children Garza had with Stodola.
Steve Mottinger: “For crying out loud, she let her oldest daughter live with him even after they broke up. Again we've got a good man here.”
Gary Euren: "Felipe Estrada had a real nice situation. He had a girlfriend with kids he could help raise that he could control and then Juan gets out of prison."
The jury will continue its deliberations Monday. Aside from the attempted murder, Estrada is also accused of aggravated assault and reckless endangerment.
