Disturbing testimony was heard today in the attempted murder trial regarding a shooting outside West Acres Cinema from last summer. The state called several witnesses including three people directly involved.
Today jurors heard a portion of a 911 tape recording from June 5th; the day DeShawn Stodola called police on her ex-boyfriend Felipe Estrada, who she says started shooting at her ex-husband Juan Carlos Garza in the parking lot of the cinema.
DeShawn Stodola – Estrada’s Ex-Girlfriend: "Silver."
Prosecutor: “And was it a long gun or a short gun?”
DeShawn Stodola: “Medium I guess."
His friend Charles Roskom, who was there, also took the stand. Roskom testified that he tried to use his car to try to stop Estrada.
Charles Roskom – Wounded in Shooting Incident: "At that moment I took my car and hit the gas really hard went up on the curb and hit both of him. I didn't know what to do; I figured a car was the best weapon I had."
Roskom later got in a scuffle with Estrada and said he was pistol whipped. Roskom's friend LaMont Nelson was also there.
Lamont Nelson: "Chuck still had him by his shirt and collar by the shoulder areas and they were wrestling to the ground and that's when I came up and I hit Felipe with my fists."
During cross examination it was revealed Garza and Estrada had a history of bad blood. Stodola said Estrada became a father figure to the children she had with Garza, and that Garza may not have liked his disciplinary actions.
The trial continues tomorrow at 9am.
