With 60 million YouTube views in less than a week, the Kony 2012 video is taking the entire world by storm. A 30 minute video calling for the arrest of an African Rebel Leader is sparking global interest.

It started as an experiment; one group trying to change the world. In five days, the KONY 2012 video has gone from an idea to a global internet sensation.

Bethany Kiedrowski – NDSU Student: :It's exploded my Facebook wall, people have retweeted it on my Twitter, it's insane.”

With 500 million users on Twitter and Facebook closing in on one billion accounts, the comments and hashtags about KONY are in the millions.

Cassie Cariveau – NDSU Studnet: “There is a whole scroll bar of just 50 posts of different people I know that got it from somebody else.”

The video itself tells firsthand the horrifying accounts of Lords Resistance Army Leader Joseph Kony, a man who's abducted tens of thousands of children, who is number one on the International Court's worst criminals list. Can this social media phenomenon truly make a difference?

Alyssa Dahl is a social media expert for Sundog International. Even she says she's never seen anything take off so quickly.

Alyssa Dahl – Social Media Analyst at Sundog: “It's really unique for this video to be shared so much when it's 30 minutes long.”

So could this just be a sign of the times?

Alyssa Dahl: “How people are connecting, how people are getting to talk and communicate with each other, I think this is just the begining of what is to come.”

The video calls for a mass protest on April 20th.

Austin Kutzer – NDSU Student: “If enough Americans know about it, the government is going to do something about it.”

Maybe only then will we understand if this is just another fad, or if one plea through social media could be changing the world.
