An NDSU student is hitting the road, raising awareness of diabetes. Junior Kayla Kent has a best friend and cousin suffering from the disease. That's what motivated her to raise money for the American Diabetes Association.

As part of the effort, she's going on a trip to Washington D.C. for the Students Today, Leaders Forever Pay It Forward Program. Along the way, she'd spread diabetes awareness and do volunteer work. Kent hopes to raise $2,700 by next week. If she meets that goal, she'll shave her head.

Kayla Kent – NDSU Student: “This is an awesome cause and honestly I already feel like I've reached my goal because I just want to spread the word like I don't need the money they need the money and just to advocate it and spread it.”

So far Kayla has raised $1,700.
