MOOSE LAKE, Minn. (AP) — The Carlton County coroner says exposure caused the death of an 81-year-old Twin Cities man whose body was found outside his car on a snowmobile trail last week.

The Duluth News Tribune (http://bit.ly/z72kds ) reports the death of Gerald Patrick Maloney of Minnetonka was ruled accidental.

Maloney had been missing since Feb. 27. According to the Star Tribune, Maloney left his home about 11:30 a.m. that morning to go to an auto-repair shop. He never arrived, and his wife reported him missing at 6:30 p.m. that evening.

Minnetonka police told KSTP-TV that Maloney may have been confused because of memory problems.

A snowmobiler called 911 last Thursday after discovering an abandoned car on a snowmobile trail in northeastern Minnesota. Deputies found Maloney's body outside the car.
