Dilworth, Minn. (WDAY TV) - Not only was it fun, but a carnival at a Lutheran Church in Dilworth this weekend will also have a lasting impact on students in need.
This carnival looks like any other carnival complete with ring toss, a cake walk, even minnow races, but it means much more than a good time for these children.
PEGGY HANSON - Dilworth Elementary Principal: “About three to four weeks ago, and told us the exciting news.”
The news Peggy Hanson received was that all the money earned at this carnival is going to her school, Dilworth Elementary.
HANSON: “Very humbled and very honored I am very proud of our school family, very proud of our community.
With the money donated, this grateful principal will be able to start "Caring Hands, Open Hearts." This will help students in need of things like coats and breakfast.
HANSON: “There is a need, there is always, we have about 35 percent free and reduced and with that the working poor and just with the economy. “
There are more than 20 games at this carnival. Each one ran by students and former students.
HANSON: “Our life skill is volunteering and giving back, to see that happen here with kids that were former students helping you know not just this year, but forever means a lot.”
LORI FEIGUM - Youth Chair, Dilworth Lutheran: “All around It is a win win situation.”
Lori Feigum, the youth chair at Dilworth Lutheran who helped organize this carnival nearly two years ago. She and other organizers decided to always keep funds local.
LORI: “All the kids here are working, all the communities have been donating so we wanted it to show them where the money is going.”
Feigum expects nearly 3 thousand dollars will go directly to the school, which means Hanson can start opening hearts as soon as possible.
