Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - The largest food drive in our region is underway. 12-million pounds worth.
Each March, Minnesota Food Share launches the biggest campaign of the year to re-stock food shelves. Cash and Food being collected. Area churches, schools, companies and civic groups take part in the big project.
The latest Department of Agriculture survey reveals 10-percent of Minnesota families are struggling to get enough food daily. Last year, families made 3-million visits to Minnesota food shelves.
Fargo's food pantry serves the entire metro area, and has witnessed a dramatic increase in need.
LINDA CLARK - Fargo Food Pantry: “People are just not making enough barely making minimum wage and that is just not enough especially with the price of gas and summer coming.”
The campaign will collect half the food needed for Minnesota's 300 food pantries to function during the coming year.
