It's the part of a hockey game that most fans never see: when the Zamboni makes its appearance. But fans in Moorhead have a new reason to stick in their seats - a state of the art electric Zamboni.
Tonight we show you why this machine is so unique and why Moorhead will never let me near it ever again.
Denny Bushy – Moorhead Youth Arena Manager: “There's only 12 of them in the country. We're the only one in the Midwest that has brand new one.”
Dom: “What have you heard from the players? Has it been a noticeable difference on the ice?”
Denny: “The kids think it's the cat’s meow. They love it; they think the ice is awesome.”
Dom: “We talked before about how environmentally friendly the electric Zamboni is. Tell me a little about that.”
Denny Bushy: “With the electric Zamboni we don't have to take any air quality tests. We used to have to take a test tube and did an air quality test every week.
Dom: “How much do you tell me this cost?”
Denny: “About $135,000….but WDAY has plenty of money.”
Dom: “What do I do first here?”
Denny Bushy: “You have to go forward with the joy stick. Give a little bit of gas. Now you’re goin’. Now you want to give it some water. You are laying down water right now. Now watch where you’re goin’.
Dom: “This is why my dad wouldn’t let me mow his lawn.”
Denny: “You don’t want to look back to see how crooked you are. You turns aren’t the best either!”
Dom: “This has got to be the scariest moment in Moorhead Hockey history.”
Denny: “For the first time not bad.”
Dom: “I’m stepping on chunks here!”
Denny: “I don’t think the Sioux would want to play on it.”
Dom: “If you were to grade this from an A to an F on my Zamboni driving, what would you give me?”
Denny Bushy: “Well, I’d say come back again for some more training. But I’d say you did really well for the first time with no training. You did fine….you can start this Saturday. I need someone at 5…”
Dom: “Alright, sign me up…”
Denny: “Five AM!”
