The North Dakota Public Service Commission is approving a rate increase for Xcel Energy, but customers will actually see lower electric bills this year. The PSC approved a $15.7 million request for infrastructure improvements.

Bills will be lower because the rate increase is lower than the interim rate that was in effect, while the PSC considered the request. Xcel says it will install automated switches to reduce outages, increase the tree-trimming budget, and launch a 3 year effort to replace the oldest underground cables. The new rates take effect May 1st.
