GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — A Grand Forks man was nearly duped into giving his credit card information to someone posing as a police officer claiming to be collecting money for an unpaid parking ticket.
Grand Forks police say the man hesitated, and was right: The police department doesn't ask for credit card information over the phone when calling about outstanding warrants and unpaid tickets.
Police urge residents contacted by supposed law-enforcement officials asking for such information to call police, as well as their credit card companies, regarding possible fraud.
