Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - A group of NDSU students are revving up their engines, but in a way that's environmentally friendly.

Chad Thomas and his three friends are getting ready to compete in the 13th annual Society of Automotive Engineers' Clean Snowmobile Challenge. They retrofitted this snowmobile with a turbo-diesel engine-a quieter engine that produces less emissions.

This vehicle gets thirty miles to the gallon, twice as much-if not more-than a regular snowmobile.

The Snowmobile Challenge takes place in early March at Michigan Tech. 12 teams from universities in America and Canada are competing.
