FARGO, N.D. (Feb. 28, 2012) – With the upcoming snow event expected tonight and tomorrow, Fargo Public Works would like to alert residents to snow removal plans and procedures. Currently, crews are working to widen the streets and remove snow from the downtown corridor and cul-de-sacs. Please pay attention to parking restrictions and move your vehicles off the street at posted times.
As conditions worsen, crews will maintain primary and secondary snow removal routes. Residential areas will be cleared when it is safe to do so. Once the snow ends, it is our goal to have the entire City cleared within 24 hours. The following tips will help you stay safe during the snow removal process:
1. Expect equipment to make unanticipated maneuvers such as backing up or making wide turns.
2. It is important to stay four car lengths behind snow removal equipment so the operator can see you.
3. Avoid driving through “white outs” caused by plows and never try to pass the plow.
4. Avoid getting between plows that are in formation, as they create windrows which make it difficult for vehicles to maneuver.
We also ask that you help make the City safe for travelers. Make sure the sidewalks and crosswalks adjoining your property are cleared of ice and snow within 48 hours after the snowfall ends. When shoveling or blowing snow from driveways, sidewalks, crosswalks or parking lots, do not deposit snow onto public streets, this is a violation of City Ordinance and may result in a $500 fine.
