Fargo man sentenced for setting garage fire

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — A Fargo man accused of breaking into a neighbor's apartment garage and setting its contents on fire told a judge he was having a bad reaction to medication and doesn't remember the incident.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — A Fargo man accused of breaking into a neighbor's apartment garage and setting its contents on fire told a judge he was having a bad reaction to medication and doesn't remember the incident.

The Forum newspaper reports (http://bit.ly/wB9uOh ) 42-year-old Jade Hemmes pleaded guilty to felony burglary and criminal mischief and misdemeanor disorderly conduct, and was sentenced to the 210 days he already served in jail.

Hemmes will be on probation for a year and must obtain a medical evaluation and take medication as prescribed. Hemmes said he has attention deficit disorder, depression and back problems, and had mixed pain pills with his other medication the night of the fire last July.

Damage from the fire exceeded $2,000. The owners of the burned materials have about another month to seek restitution.
