Middle and high school students in the region got out their calculators and sharpened their pencils. Concordia College hosted the 38th annual Tri-College Math Contest.
About 1,500 students from 66 schools showed off their skills in algebra, geometry, statistics and other areas. They competed in teams and individually. Teachers say this event gets students excited about math and even future careers.
Jon Labrensz – Shanley High School: “Math skills are skills you use every day contrary to what some students think, but it's something you use every day and it opens the door to other departments. Just about everything uses math so it's really a requisite skill to do just about anything.”
Plaques were given to winners.
