FARGO, N.D. (AP) — A drug dealer in North Dakota and Minnesota accused of trying to hire a hit man to kill two witnesses has been sentenced to 32 years in prison.

Jeremy Jon Hoff had pleaded guilty earlier in federal court to conspiracy to deliver methamphetamine, use of a firearm during a drug-trafficking crime, witness tampering and two counts of solicitation to murder a witness.

Hoff faced a maximum sentence of life in prison. His attorney Monday asked for a sentence of not more than 25 years.

Investigators say the 28-year-old Hoff offered to pay a fellow inmate in a Minnesota jail to kill two of his alleged co-conspirators.

Prosecutors say Hoff carried the nickname of Johnny 5, in reference to his standing on a regional law enforcement list of most wanted criminals.
