2 Minnesotans Vie for Best Picture at Oscars

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Two Minnesotans are vying for Best Picture honors at the 84th annual Academy Awards Sunday night.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Two Minnesotans are vying for Best Picture honors at the 84th annual Academy Awards Sunday night.

Edina native Jim Burke is a producer of the George Clooney movie, "The Descendants." Besides Best Picture, "The Descendants" is up for four more Oscars, including Clooney for Best Actor.

Minnesotan Bill Pohlad of River Road Entertainment also is a producer of a Best Picture nominee, "The Tree of Life," starring Brad Pitt. "The Tree of Life" is up for three Oscars, including Terrence Malick for Director.

"The Descendants" and "The Tree of Life" are among nine pictures competing for Best Picture. "Hugo" leads with 11 nominations while Best Picture-favorite "The Artist" has 10.

The ceremony will be aired live on ABC from Hollywood.
