Several NDSU students gathered last night for a candlelight vigil to remember their four classmates killed in a car accident this week.
The students huddled in the cold outside the Memorial Union, holding onto one another as they remembered the four women. Some were strangers, never having met the victims. Groups of people sang songs. Others lit a candle and simply stayed silent. The vigil symbolizes one way the large campus has come together since the tragedy.
Leah Kelm – Friend of Megan: “I'm going to miss her smile, definitely. I'm going to miss her smile. I'm going to miss her kindness. I'm going to miss her beauty. She was just, she was an amazing girl.”
Elly Peterson – NDSU Junior: “The events of this week have kind of brought our campus together in a way that we've never really seen before and their spirit is something that I think touched everyone.”
Funerals for two of the women were held this morning. Danielle Renninger's service was held in Excelsior. Jordan Playle's funeral was held in Rogers. Funerals for Lauren Peterson and Megan Sample will be held tomorrow. Peterson's funeral will be held in Prior Lake. Sample's service will take place in Rogers. The families have asked the media to respect their privacy as they grieve.
