Oakes teenager killed in fatal accident is identified

A crash on slush-covered roads just south of Valley City has claimed the life of an Oakes teenager and injured five other people. The accident happened just after 12:30 on Highway 1 five miles south of I-94.

The ND Highway Patrol says 16-year-old Ashley Meyer lost control of her car on state Highway 1 early Monday afternoon and crossed into the other lane, where her car was struck by a van. The minivan hit the car on the driver side door.

The 16 year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. Her 17-year-old female passenger was taken to Sanford in Fargo for her injuries.

The van's driver and three passengers were taken to a Valley City hospital to be treated for injuries.
