(WDAY Sports) - At this time last season, Twins all-star catcher Joe Mauer was rehabbing from off-season surgery, and nobody knew how much he'd be able to take part in spring training. As it turned out he wasn't able to do much.

This year is a different story. Mauer along with the rest of the team's pitchers and catchers started workouts this weekend. The former MVP spent the winter going through what he calls a revamped conditioning program and expects to have no restrictions in spring training.

He caught bullpen sessions today and didn't have any complaints.

JOE MAUER - Played 82 Games Last Year: “It was good to get the gear back on. I guess I wasn't really worried about it or anything. But, it was good to get out there and run away with the guys. Catching Marquis, it was good to get behind the plate and see it, and just be involved.”
