(WDAY TV) -- People interested in politics are learning how to run for office, in honor of Senator Paul Wellstone who died in a plane crash in 2002.
Josh Boschee is planning to run for the North Dakota Legislature. Although he has served on several State and Local campaigns, he's not sure of the in's and outs of a political race.
Josh: "It is really just kind of increasing my tool kit for my interest in running for office."
Boschee is learning how to build a strong campaign, raise funds, and give a good speech like he is here.
Josh: "I know what is important to me, but i need to learn more about what's important to you so that I can effectively represent you and build those connections with you."
Minnesota Senator Paul Wellstone was a great role model to Boschee, so what better way to start a grass roots campaign, then by following in the footsteps of a former lawmaker.
Josh: "He was very impressive in the way that he organized people in the state of Minnesota, and got his information out there and connected with the voters and their values."
One instructor has already ran for office, so she's not only teaching these students by the book, but, from personal experience.
Prairie Rose: "Using my story and the pros and cons, up's and down's, the journey of running for office, and what that meant."
Prairie Rose Seminole ran for the North Dakota Legislature in 2010. She attended camp Wellstone as a student in 2008.
Prairie Rose: "We want people to have a hands on experience and so we, most of the trainers have been involved in running for office or campaigns, or being that activist who are getting our elected officials to do the right thing."
After much experience Seminole can now help students Like Boschee accomplish their goals and give them the tools they need to have a successful campaign.
Josh: "We'll walk away this after tomorrow afternoon with a plan in place, so the skeleton framework of what our campaign will look like."
