A West Fargo man is being honored for helping capture an escaped convict. He helped track down the criminal from another state to our viewing area. It is not every day that someone can claim they nabbed a wanted man, let alone be honored for it. This West Fargo man is getting that bragging right.

The Fargo Police Department awarded Robert Charles the 2011 Citizen Award. Charles works at Super 8. Last October, officers checked his hotel and others for 38 year-old William Gajdick.

An all-points bulletin had been issued. Gajdick had escaped from a Nebraska prison. He had stolen cars in Iowa and Illinois and was suspected in two home invasions where one homeowner was shot in the back. Charles went into his company's database and tracked the suspect to Fergus Falls. He's humbled by catching a felon.

Robert Charles – Award Recipient: “Not really, no. It's not something that you expect but it's something that I would hope that every citizen would do.”

A total of 10 awards were given, most internally. Two of those officers, getting silver stars, rescued two children from a fire in November.
